Lesson 04 – The Prayer Warrior’s Prayer Mission

Part 1 — Understanding and Embracing Our Mission in Prayer

A Threefold Biblical Foundation

1. A Biblical ______________________________

Scripture:
May God be merciful and bless us. May his face shine with favor upon us. May your ways be known throughout the earth, your saving power among people everywhere. — Psalm 67:1-2 (NLT)

2. A Biblical ______________________________

Scripture:
And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then, finally, the end will come.Matthew 24:14 (NLT)

“Whole world” in Greek: Oikoumene
“The inhabited world; where people live”
(From Oikos: “dwelling/house”)

“Nations” in Greek: Ethnos
“Peoples; people groups”

3. A Biblical ______________________________

Scripture:
After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a mighty shout, “Salvation comes from our God on the throne and from the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell face down before the throne and worshiped God. They said, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and forever. Amen!” — Revelation 7:9-12 (NLT)

Scripture:
Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession. — Psalm 2:8 (NLT)

For his Holy Spirit speaks to us deep in our hearts and tells us that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we will share his treasures—for everything God gives to his Son, Christ, is ours, too. — Romans 8:16-17a (NLT)

If the Good News we preach is veiled from anyone, it is a sign that they are perishing. Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News that is shining upon them.2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (NLT)

AFTERTHOUGHTS… PONDER AND PRAY

Ponder Points:
Ponder how you believe prayer may have had an impact on your salvation. Do you know the person who may have prayed for you? Why do you believe intercession is the believer’s highest calling? Journal your thoughts in the space that follows.

Prayer Points:
Take time to “ask” for the nations. If in a small group, use Every Home for Christ’s World Prayer Map and, in pairs, pray for the several nations listed on the days of your births (e.g., if you were born on the 20th, pray for the nations listed that day). If you do not have the map, pray for those nations that come to your mind.

Scripture:
Now, son of man, take a clay tablet, put it in front of you and draw the city of Jerusalem on it. Then lay siege to it: Erect siege works against it, build a ramp up to it, set up camps against it and put battering rams around it.Ezekiel 4:1-2 (NIV)

“Siege” defined:
1. “A prolonged attack; to pursue diligently and persistently”
2. “A blockade of a city or fortress to compel it to surrender”

How to Be a World Prayer Missionary

Scripture:
Proceeding on through Mysia, they [Paul, Silas and Timothy] went down to the seaport Troas. That night Paul had a dream: A Macedonian stood on the far shore and called across the sea, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” The dream gave Paul his map. We went to work at once getting things ready to cross over to Macedonia. All the pieces had come together… — Acts 16:8-10 (MSG)

Step One:
_________________ your missionary __________ (i.e., nation or people group).
Where Is Your Macedonia?

Step Two:
___________ your missionary _______ (i.e., research your people group or nation and create a seven-day plan).
Example: Locate all major cities and towns and list several for each day of the week.

Step Three:
____________ your missionary calling __________.
Note: Ask the Holy Spirit to show you unique ways to pray over each day’s plan.

AFTERTHOUGHTS… PONDER AND PRAY

Ponder Points:
Ponder what part of the world (nation or people group) you would like to go to if God allowed you to be a full-time missionary. What are some ways you might develop your prayer strategy or do research into this nation or people group? Journal your thoughts in the space that follows.

Prayer Points:
Using one or more of the five focuses on the EHC World Prayer Map (Open Hands, Open Doors, Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Heavens) pray for the nation or people group that is on your heart or comes to your mind. Pray that the “Lord of the harvest” (Christ) will send out workers into this field (Matthew 9:37-38).

Voices from the Past:
“The man who mobilizes the Christian Church to prayer will make the greatest contribution to world evangelism in history.”
—Andrew Murray, Author

Scripture:
The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation. I am the LORD; in its time I will do this swiftly. — Isaiah 60:22 (NIV)

So, my son, throw yourself into this work for Christ. Pass on what you heard from me—the whole congregation saying Amen!—to reliable leaders who are competent to teach others.2 Timothy 2:1-2 (MSG)

O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray to the LORD day and night for the fulfillment of his promises. Take no rest, all you who pray. Give the LORD no rest until he makes Jerusalem the object of praise throughout the earth… Go out! Prepare the highway for my people to return! Smooth out the road; pull out the boulders; raise a flag for all the nations to see.Isaiah 62:6-7, 10 (NLT)

Sowing Seeds as a Prayer Mobilizer…

  1. “Sow” Every Home for Christ World Prayer Maps among friends, your church, and even other churches.
  2. “Sow” good books, CDs, or other materials that might help people pray more faithfully.
  3. “Sow” prayer training like The Change the World School of Prayer through small groups, Sunday school   classes, or even in homeschooling settings.
  4. “Sow” yourself into the calling of a prayer mobilizer by organizing a prayer cell or small group.

AFTERTHOUGHTS… PONDER AND PRAY

Ponder Points:
Ponder ways you might encourage others to grow in their prayer lives, especially with a burden to pray for the nations. What is it that has most influenced your life to pray consistently? Journal your thoughts in the space that follows.

Prayer Points:
Pray for your church, friends, or family to have more of a burden to pray faithfully. Pray for your pastor or leader to seek ways to develop a greater prayer ministry in his or her congregation or group. Pray for more “watchmen on the walls” in our communities and neighborhoods (Isaiah 62:6-7).
